Salmo lures are red hot and pre-fishing opener sales here in the Midwest have been fantastic. The Hornet is clearly the #1 selling walleye lure this season in many areas and some custom colors have had such demand, retailers are placing their orders NOW for NEXT season. The advantages of Salmo's great performance and great reliability will not be compromised. You will never see Salmo lures made in China like the other major crankbait companies have done. Salmo lures are, for all practical purposes, a custom lure company. Every Salmo lure is hand crafted to such high standards they can be backed by the industry's FIRST lifetime guarantee on a fishing lure.
EXPECT SHORTAGES AND SELL-OUTS. Unfortunately, with the sudden demand put on Salmo lures, there is simply no way to predict six months in advance what will be hot. Hornets and Bullheads are two of the hottest selling Salmo lures, but demand out- paces supply at a rate of 3 to 1 at this point. The only Salmo-USA can give to fishermen is that if you find a color you like, don't wait, BUY IT, because it may be all the Salmo you will see for the entire season!
Testing and final lure and color selections for the 2008 season is now well underway. While Salmo Poland tries to keep their designs top secret, their hopes for keeping one lure secret didn't work. FLW Pro Jim Moynagh was to test a new top secret lure called the Skinner 10. He was told not to show or tell anyone about the lure because if it did not meet Salmo standards for performance, it would not be offered. "It was simply not possible for me to hide or put down the Skinner 10 when the camera's were on." stated Moynagh. " I had to use what I felt would give me the best shot at winning, and the Skinner 10 was clearly the best surface twitch bait I have ever used."
Here is what was posted about Moynagh's efforts after finishing in second place after two days of fishing on Lake Norman in North Carolina. You can learn more at the www.FLWoutdoors.com web site. Jim went on to finish in 6th place after two additional days of fishing, Great Job Moynagh!
Moynagh second BP pro Jim Moynagh of Carver, Minn., started the event in the second position with an opening weight of 15 pounds, 3 ounces. Moynagh reported catching 10 keepers today, but his best three fish came on a new lure made by Salmo called a Skinner. "It's like a floating minnow bait, but I'm fishing it real slow on top like it was a topwater," Moynagh explained. Moynagh fished the Skinner around docks and brush and caught his other keepers on weightless plastics. "I did catch a few off beds as well, but I ended up culling those out with the ones I caught on the Skinner," he added.
Salmo wants bass fishing fans to know that the Skinner 10 will NOT be available until next January so please STOP CALLING. While we appreciate all the interest, this new lure was to be top secret until next year. Unfortuately, things got a little out of control. And NO, Jim Moynagh will not be selling the lure he used for $5,000 on E-Bay. We don't know who got that rumor started, but it is not true. Jim plans on using this very same Skinner in his next event on Beaver Lake in Arkansas later in May. Good Luck Jim!
Elsewhere, trout fishermen on the Great Lakes have been trolling the Minnow #9 and SDR 7 Minnow. These baits have been tearing up the brown trout on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. Pictured here is Jim Hudson with a couple of dandy brown trout caught using the Salmo Minnow.
Walleyes have already been taken in great numbers in South Dakota's Missouri River as DAILY reports of great catches have been coming into Salmo-USA. Most fish have been taken on the #4 Hornet in 3 to 10 feet of water.
It is quite clear that Al Maas veteran guide and Hall of Fame angler and Kelley Cirks of Salmo will be getting a lot of attention at this year's Minnesota's Governor's Opener on Leech Lake this year. This annual event attracts hundreds of media representatives from all over the world to highlight the big fishing opener for walleye and northern pike in Minnesota (which is May 12th this year.) Al will be fishing with Minnesota Lt. Governor Carol Molnau. Good luck to one and all.
